Sunday Aug 07, 2022
Welcome to the first Forbidden Cinema Lightning Round.
We are back from Mexico and have finished binging How to Build a Sex Room. It occurs to us that there are many movies that may be problematic or forbidden, but we have watched them so often as adults that we may not be able to truly view them with a fresh eye. Not wanting to eliminate them completely we decided to do a 10 minute lightning round on each. Join us as we hit the forbidden and nostalgic elements of the films:
1. Ghostbusters2. Die Hard3. Jaws - swerve, Jenny calls an audible4. Revenge of the Nerds5. Zack's secret pick6. Jenny's secret pick.

Sunday Jul 24, 2022
Here. We. Go. In this episode we finish How to Build a Sex Room. We talk about how to relate to our friends who are swingers, apparently. We discuss the ethics of polyamory and why only the women of color get stripper poles.

Sunday Jul 17, 2022
Ok guys, if you haven't started binging Netflix's new hit show How to Build a Sex Room, you should stop right now and go do it. When you are done with the first couple episodes, come on back and let's unpack it.
While it is a bit of a departure from movies we couldn't watch as children, we are enjoying going on these detours to cover fun, sexy, entertainment for adults.
Join Melanie (or Maggie as Zack can't figure out) Rose and Mike as they restrain the home improvement show genre and spank it on it's bottom. This show has something for everyone and is so much smarter than it needed to be. Come on and let's just join the conversation about it.

Forbidden Cinema 59 - Madonna Truth or Dare - Going Deeper
Friday Jul 15, 2022
Friday Jul 15, 2022
***We spend several minutes talking true crime style about Paul Dennis Reid's spree killing that affected us greatly when we were growing up. If this is a trigger for you you can skip ahead to about 30 minutes when we get there***
This is the week the podcast goes off the rails.
It's been a weird couple of weeks, guys.
This week we delve deeper into Madonna's Truth or Dare, but get really sidetracked. We go from antiretroviral treatment of HIV to the Tony Scott / Kiera Knightly vehicle, Domino. On the way we go from Meredith Brooks' surprisingly long career and discuss more of the maligned women of history.

Forbidden Cinema 58 - Madonna Truth or Dare

Madonna... is... amazing...
Why were we not just a little older when this happened? We feel like we know that Madonna was a popular singer in the 80s and 90s, but had no idea about how fabulous this tour actually was.
Come with us as we view our first concert film. We get to see a lot of people in their early 20's being really terrible to each other in black and white and then... Boom... Brilliant color footage of Madonna rocking stadiums, night after night, for months.

Forbidden Cinema 57 - Dick Tracy - Going Deeper

Sunday Jun 26, 2022
Welcome back to Forbidden Cinema. On our going deeper episodes, Zack goes into deep research mode to find the answers to questions you never thought to ask. Sometimes the answers are fascinating. Sometimes they are so horrifying that you wish we hadn't bothered.
This week we look start to look at the career of Warren Beatty, but get distracted by how many famous lady's he had affairs with. Then we look at the rights and box office, and everybody's gets dizzy so we move on.
We get distracted by the complex and potentially problematic career of Sean Young. Then we deep dive Charlie Korsmo's (The Kid) CV and find disturbingly too much contact info.
We look at the suggested searches after all this Dick Tracy nonsense. We try to deep dive the career of Madonna, but are too star struck to function. We spend a lot of time looking at the fashion, cars, and sets.
In our "In Print" segment, we realize that we have pretty much worn out Playboy magazine from 1990, so Zack go crazy deep looking at the issue of the Washington PA Observer Reporter from the week this movie came out. It turns out that things have changed quite a bit since 1990.

Forbidden Cinema 56 - Dick Tracy

Sunday Jun 12, 2022
Join us as we wrap up our "What were they thinking" series looking at movies with which our parent's had no objections, but had content that looking back seems a little crazy. This week we looked at Warren Beatty's 1990 passion project, Dick Tracy.
This is a movie Zack saw at the drive-in theater. We have trading cards and movie props from the film in our collection. This movie was so dark that they took the Disney name off of it, and put it in the newly formed Touchstone Pictures instead. This movie had McDonald's cups, Madonna's nipples in a transparent robe, a body count of 23, people being tortured in cement and drowned. All of this and it was rated PG.
Join us as we go a little long unpacking it all. Sorry for the slow releases the last few weeks, Covid and healthcare worker shortage has really got us down. Oh, and spoiler alert at 1:06:00 if you really don't want to know the identity of the faceless puppetmaster in a >30 year old movie.

Forbidden Cinema 55 - Tremors - Going Deeper
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Tuesday May 31, 2022
Engineering school time!!! Zack takes Kevin Bacon's hair length and nudity and tries to determine if there is a statistically significant correlation. There are graphs. You should probably check social media, I don't think this translates very well in audio. Zack also calculates the number of animals required for a stampede. The best thing about science is it has to give you an answer. If you decide a formula is credible, you can put all sorts of numbers in, and science has to give you an answer even if it is absurd.
We talk more about Zack's 4th grade friend who encouraged him to watch Tremors and played a minor role in an Ernest movie.
We hit up Playboy as usual, and discuss non-pornographic films that have won AVN awards. Jenny can't separate the 1996 David Cronenberg, James Spader, Casey Jones film Crash about people turned on by car crashes from the mid 2000s crash about race relations that won a bunch of Oscars.

Forbidden Cinema 54 - Tremors
Sunday May 15, 2022
Sunday May 15, 2022
This week the forbidden couple take a time out from their "What were our parents thinking" series to pay homage to the great Fred Ward. We dig into a film that was a staple of Jenny's adolescence, but was completely forbidden from Zack. This is a movie that Zack can specifically remember the moment in which it was turned off by his aunt.
We watched the 1990 film, Tremors. Come along with us as we watch Fred Ward, Kevin Bacon, and the Dad from Family Ties fight a bunch of under-ground mother-humping monsters.
We try to break down the population of Perfection, NV and try to determine the biological imperatives of the Graboid species with only 1 of the 7 films in our wheelhouse.
Zack also kind of revels in this movie that was turned off for swearing by using a bit more salty language than usual, content advisory.

Forbidden Cinema 54 - Speed - Going Deeper
Sunday May 08, 2022
Sunday May 08, 2022
Welcome back to Forbidden Cinema. This week we go deeper on the 1994 action film, Speed. We figure out the Keanu timeline, try to place his accent, and try to figure out why Sad Keanu is so sad and how to make him happy again. Showgirls, Dolly Parton, and Alice Cooper all show up in some form or another. We discuss briefly the tragic story of River Phoenix.
We mythbust the crap out of some of the physics of this film. We also are able to find detailed specs for both the cars and the guns and determine if they behave appropriately. We dig into the history of the screenwriter and directors. Guess what, Jon de Bont was involved in the making of our first featured film, Basic Instinct.
We probably go deeper on the upskirt shot than anyone ever has, but still fail to make the connection to Basic Instinct. We hit up Jeff Daniels and the most recent smoking characters in film. Zack goes on a crazy tangent about Ducktales The Movie and gives some information from a source that begins to seem "suspect".
We briefly hit up Speed 2 and then dive into Playboy December 1994. We discover how pivotal 1994 will be in the Forbidden Timeline and uncover another tragic story of a Playmate gone too young.
