Forbidden Cinema 31 - Batman Returns - Going Deeper

We are your reckoning, Batman.  Join us as we go deeper on the unanswered questions regarding our Batman Returns episode.  We try to find the line in the sand on who should not get a Happy Meal toy.  We go back to 1992 to determine if Zack could have seen this for his birthday in July and whether Bill Clinton was assaulting women on a national or local level at the time.  We go a little true crime discussing the police record of Paul Reubens and explore the tragic story of Miss November 1992, Stephanie Adams.  We also look at the decades long crusade of James Ferman and his attempt to ban any martial arts weapons from British Film.

Forbidden Cinema 30 - Batman Returns

Join us as we talk about the movie that Jenny's mom straight walked the family out of at less than 3 minutes of watching.  We tackle the sexier than expected Tim Burton film Batman Returns.  Michael Keaton got rich doing this, Danny Devito got gross, I was a 13 year old boy who learned to spell Michelle Pfeiffer.  We get in to the wild physics and tone for this.  We One-der who in the world this was intended to please.  We also do a creepy amount of impressions.  We promise to stop if you don't like it.

Forbidden Cinema 29 - Wild Things - GoingDeeper

Join us as we talk about all the things we forgot and left unsaid in both Poltergeist and Wild Things.  We talk about the trope of the native burial ground.  Zack gets really confused when trying to figure out how to count fake boobs.  We go deep on advertisements for fragrances in 2004 Playboy.  Zack tries to call Playboy to order a chainmail dress featured in 2004 for Jenny.  Is the 800 number still valid.  Are we going to post pictures.  You have to listen to find out.

Forbidden Cinema - 28 - Wild Things

Come back with us to 1998 where we discuss a movie whose lurid details were discussed in hushed tones at the lunch table.  Imagine it is senior year.  Half of the class is over 18 and can get into the movie and share forbidden tales of sex, money, betrayal, and murder to the rest of the class.  We watched Wild Things.  This was a movie who's marketing said "Come for the girl-on-girl action, stay for the twists and turns."  We break it down for you and find that while it is confusing, it actually does feel a little smarter than you would expect at the end.  And also, Bill Murray is in this thing right as he is about to be discovered as one of the true treasures in film and culture.  Snuggle up somewhere warm, put your oversized cordless phone on do not disturb, grab some popcorn, and don't forget to look over your shoulder for the inevitable betrayal.

Forbidden Cinema - 27 - Poltergeist

What better mashup than the ET Guy and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy.  Surely that will work.  Strangely it does and creates one of the best haunted house movies ever made.  We go way back to 1982 and watched Poltergeist for the first time for either of us.  We delve into what would be done with a forbidden film in our respective households.  We talk about how much of a debt one of our favorite films, Ghostbusters, owes to this.  We discuss the supposed curse and spend a moment reflecting on the real life tragedies that accompanied the cast of the film.  We also talk about how much we love to see an adult couple in a film who seem to actually like each other, seems rare these days.

Forbidden Cinema - 26 - The Hand that Rocks the Cradle - Going Deeper

Your oh so humble narrators dive deeper into the why behind the how of The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.  We look at the physics of the greenhouse murder trap and the picket fence impalement.  We skew way off into Breakfast at Tiffany's and  Walter Matthau.  Things get wacky as we look at the major film releases around this time and avoid discussing Tori peeing herself at slumber parties.

Forbidden Cinema 25 - The Hand that Rocks the Cradle

We did it!  We went back to our local theater from when we were children that has recently reopened.  Most of the theater has been converted into other businesses, but the lobby and snack bar are still exactly the same.  The sense of nostalgia was almost overwhelming.  
At the theater we watched The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.  This creepy thriller was off limits as kids.  We discuss why we even thought about this move as kids.  We dive deep into why is was forbidden to us and decide if it was worth the wait.

Forbidden Cinema 24 - Carrie - Going Deeper

Join us as we attempt to answer our questions from our review of Carrie.  We start by going deeper on the book and then quickly go off the rails talking about high school lunches and mobile hot tubs.  We diverge into fashion, Grey's Anatomy, and the Top 20 hits from the time this movie came out.  We hit at the feminine message in this film.*This episode mentions a line from an older movie that could be considered a LGBTQ+ slur

Forbidden Cinema 23 - Carrie

Welcome back as Zack and Jenny unpack all of the questions left unanswered from our discussion of American Pie.  We dig up property records and interviews with local coffee shop owners around the opening of the first Starbucks in TN.  We dive unnecessarily deep into the brief cameo of Blink182 in this film.  We wonder what is up with Natasha Lyonne and unfortunately spend a little time googling Jenny's latest word creation "tongualingusly (which I'm pretty sure just means tongue-tongue in latin-english).
